SOME AND ANY

OBJETIVO: Identificar las diferencias en el uso de SOME y ANY con sustantivos contables e incontables.

Some y Any son usados generalmente como cuantificadores. Para determinar la existencia o ausencia de algo.

En inglés, some (algo, algo de, algunos o un poco), any (ningún, nada de o algo de o algún) y no (no o ningún) son adjetivos (adjectives) indefinidos o cuantificadores que se usan de formas similares para indicar cuánto o cuántos hay de algo, sin especificar la cantidad exacta.

Veamos cómo usar cada uno.

SOME is used in affirmative statements with countable nouns

They have some apples in the freezer.

SOME is used in affirmative statements with uncountable nouns.

I want some pop corns.

Note:

Some is used in questions for invitations:

Example: Do you want some water?

Do you want some cookies?

Would you like some sugar?

Any is used in questions

any (ningún, nada de o algo de o algún)

Is there any milk? HAY ALGO DE LECHE

Do you have any tomatoes? TIENES TU ALGUNOS TOMATES

Any is used in negative statements with plural countable nouns

They don´t have any pears. NO TIENEN NINGUNAS PERAS

There aren´t any oranges NO HAY NIGUNAS NARANJAS

Any is used in negative statements with uncountable nouns

There isn´t any chicken in the freezer. NO HAY NINGUN POLLO EN LA REFRI

She doesn´t have any money. ELLA NO TIENE NADA DE DINERO

Cómo usar no

No se usa en oraciones afirmativas, pero su significado es negativo. No se puede usar con sustantivos contables e incontables. Cuando va antes de un sustantivo que funciona como sujeto, el sustantivo suele ser plural y el verbo plural.

EJEMPLOS

No animal were hurt during this video.

Ningún animal resultó herido en este video.

We have no time for this nonsense. WE DON’T HAVE TIME

No tenemos tiempo para estas tonterías.

No también se puede usar con un sustantivo singular, especialmente en un lenguaje más formal.
