SO THAT

a phrase that begins adverb clauses. You may recall that an adverb clause shows a relationship between two actions. It joins a main clause, or complete sentence, to a dependent clause, or incomplete sentence, and shows how they relate.

“So that” means “in order to” which answers the question “Why?” We use it to begin adverb clauses of purpose. Using

“so that” is a conjunction which is used to join two clauses.

“so that” is used before the clause which indicates the purpose.

Examples

She is too young so that she cannot smoke.

It is too late so that we cannot go to cinema.

I will go to France so that I can learn French.

Let’s go to the cinema early so that we can get good seats.

I’m putting the dish in the oven now so that it’ll be ready by eight o’clock.

I opened the door so that she could come in.

She decided to stay at home so that hse could watch the basketball match on TV.

NOW THAT

You use now that to give an explanation of a new situation: Now that I live only a few blocks from work, I walk to work and enjoy it.

Now that you mention it, I am kind of hungry.

Now that we're all here, let's start the meeting. / Let's start the meeting now that everyone's here.

Now that we know each other a little better, we get along fine.

Now that I think of it, I acted the same way when I was his age.

IN CASE

1.  USING “IN CASE” ( AS A CONJUNCTION ) TO SHOW REASON/CAUSE IN ENGLISH

“in case” is used to talk about things we should do in order to be prepared for possible future situations. In other words,

“in case” is a structure we use when expressing how we will take precautions for the possibility of something.

Namely;

“in case” is a conjunction which is used to join two clauses. ( one of them expresses an action, the other expresses the reason )

“in case” is used before the clause which indicates the reason/cause.

“in case” is used to indicate the reason or cause of the action which is mentioned before.

A ( Main) Clause ( Action ) + In Case + A Clause ( Reason )

                                                       OR

PRECAUTION + In Case + POSSIBILITY

You can see many examples related to using “in case” below;

 

Examples:

   I will not go to my office by my car in case it snows. ( Action – Reason )

             ( It snows – possibility / I will not go… – precaution )

   My mother put a cake in my handbag in case I was hungry. ( Action – Reason )

             ( I was hungry – possibility / My mother put a cake… – precaution )

   Her father always gives her some money in case she can need it. ( Action – Reason )

             ( She can need it – possibility / Her father always gives her some money – precaution )

   Take your hat in case it is sunny. ( Action – Reason )

             ( It is sunny – possibility / take your hat – precaution )

   I put the keys here in case I forget. ( Action – Reason )

             ( I forget – possibility / I put the keys here – precaution )

   Take an umbrella in case it rains. ( Action – Reason )

             ( It rains – possibility / Take an umbrella – precaution )

   The teacher wrote down the student’s homework on a piece of paper in case he should forget his homework. ( Action – Reason )

             ( he should forget… – possibility / the teacher wrote down – precaution )
